1890s S.S. Stewart Thoroughbred 5-string for sale

Price: $2,000.00 USD

Hello! I am helping a gentleman sell a family heirloom banjo! It has been sitting for many years in the attic of the family home and has somehow survived in great shape! The gentleman's uncle purchased the banjo in the 1940s, but was deployed with the US military in 1946 and was stationed overseas. I don't know the whole story, but in any case he decided not to pursue playing his banjo, and it remained in storage at the family home. Seller is moving to Florida from Wisconsin and would like to sell the banjo. I am assisting to list it and to put interested parties in touch directly with the seller.

Here is what I have discovered about this banjo:

Serial number 17426 S.S. Stewart Thorough-bred open back 5-string banjo, which places it made between 1895-1898 by S.S. Stewart in Philadelphia, PA

-Beautiful peg-head with intact inlays
-Original tuners in nice and functional condition
-Adjustable neck fastener
-Stewart's "original" Common Sense tailpiece with Ivory rosette
-Original calf-skin head
-22 frets with intact inlays and German silver frets in nice condition
-Does not seem to have the original bridge, which is affecting the string placement slightly
-Recently gently cleaned and strung with nygut strings
-Floating Wooden 5th-string pip inserted to repair broken original pip
-Has a cardboard case
-Very beautiful and very lovely sounding instrument in great condition!
