For sale: my mid 1970s Iida Model 240 archtop banjo. This was Iida’s top of the line during a time when Japanese banjos were in their heyday.

This banjo is in excellent, near mint condition, with gold-plated metal that is in excellent condition with a small amount of aging on the armrest. It has a very nice wreath pattern in MOP, beautiful maple neck and resonator, and wood marquetry binding. There are no wood scratches, neck is straight and no fret wear. it includes a gold plated sliding 5th string capo, gold plated Scruggs tuners as well as the original gold plated tuners in the original Scruggs tuners box. The original case is also in excellent condition. I also have several vintage banjo books that I will include along with a new set of strings and a new Weatherking head.

There's been several folks asking about the D tuners. I can verify that these are Keith gold plated Banjo D tuners.

I know the complete history of this banjo because I bought it new in the mid-70's! I began playing in the early 70's and one day I got a call from the owner of "Martys Guitars" in the Hollywood district of Portland, Oregon. He and his wife had just returned from a show in Seattle, where he had picked up this banjo. I played it and immediately fell in love with its distinctive sound and heft. (this thing is a tank!) It really is a gorgeous, hand made banjo. I loved it so much that I eventually sold my Gibson Mastertone and never looked back. I was only able to play for a few years before life got in the way and it got put away and unfortunately I never was able to find the time to pick it back up. Now with arthritic hands it's time to sell. I hope that whoever buys this banjo enjoys it as much as I did. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
