1969 Gibson RB-250 Banjo for Sale

Price: $1,595.00 USD

Offering for sale an RB250 Gibson Mastertone banjo. This was my much loved intermediate instrument purchased on eBay way back in 2003. It’s sat forlornly unplayed in its case since I purchased a Stelling Starflower in 2018 however, and it’s now time to pass it along to another player. It will need a bit of a tuneup and a head tightening before playing and we’ve priced it very reasonably to reflect that it needs some tlc. Action is still low and easily playable, though as you can see, there are some thin styrene shims between the neck joint and the rim. Note also that the resonator binding has deteriorated in several spots and the previous owner filled the gaps with some sort of resin. It’s definitely a player’s instrument and not a showhorse but this could be addressed by anyone handy enough to carve out the old binding and replace it with new strips from Stew Mac, etc. This cosmetic defect is reflected in the asking price. The instrument will ship with a case that is well worn but in serviceable condition. Forgot to shoot pics of the case this afternoon but happy to provide images upon request. The serial number is so faint upon the back of the peg head it’s always been hard to read, but this was purchased as a 1969 or possibly 1970 Gibson based on family recollections from the original owner in North Carolina. I’m not terribly technical when it comes to describing instruments but it has an 11” pot with mahogany neck and resonator. It features an ebony fingerboard, Gibson script logo on the headstock, abalone Mastertone model inlay and Keith tuners. Please feel free to ask any questions and I’ll gladly forward additional images if desired. Thanks for looking!
