Gibson 1926 TB-2 Conversion with Pyramid Tone Ring.
Price: $2,395.00 USD
This banjo has an original 1926 Gibson TB-2 rim and resonator with matching FON’s, 8439-31. It is a shoe-bracket rim with block construction. Original bracket shoes, flat hooks and nuts, grooved tension hoop, and single coordinator rod. It has an unmarked plastic head and a Presto window tailpiece. The flange is a from a later date bearing hex cutouts and the resonator is attached with the original ’26 hex nuts. The arm rest is a wooden Slimline. A thin layer of maple was added to the top of the rim to properly fit the replica Pyramid tone ring made by Arnold Clayton. The resonator is single bound and shows moderate wear, light rash, several dings, and lacquer checking, but no cracks or repairs. The neck is a very nice modern creation (maker, date unknown), 26 3/8” scale, made of maple with a rosewood fretboard and ebony peghead overlay. No cracks or repairs. The inlays are interestingly unique, in the style of Gibson’s Style 5 UB (ukelele banjos) of that era. I have never seen that on a regular banjo before, but I like it! It has 5th string capo spikes at the frets 7, 8, 9. It has Gotoh tuners with vintage ivoroid buttons. The banjo is set up an 11/16 in bridge, leaving 1/16” string height at the 12th fret. Overall, the banjo is in very good condition, with no major issues. It plays very well, in bluegrass and old time jams. It comes with a like new soft Protec case. $2395. Includes shipping and insurance.
