This is an ultra rare Tennessee BTD Top Tension Banjo made by Tut Taylor in the 1970’s. This has been inspected and set up at the Banjo Warehouse in Atlanta Georgia.

Description

The banjo is extremely rare and is a very special Top Tension by the Brand Tennessee which was Tut Taylor. Only a few of these were made. This has a multiply maple shell with a walnut neck and resonator. The fretboard is ebony with stunning inlay. The headstock is rosewood with more beautiful inlay. There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator.

This has all original top tension hardware including a no hole tone ring and one piece flange, all nickel. The armrest has Tennessee engraved and there is some really good engraving work on the tailpiece. This banjo is top level in every way, all the way around. This banjo was produced in the most limited numbers, there probably are only a literal few of these. This includes a hardshell case.

I want to mention you may be familiar with Crafters of Tennessee which was a brand owned by Tut Taylor’s son Mark Taylor. Mark Taylor was the Taylor in Rich and Taylor with Greg Rich. This is a really cool piece of banjo building history as well.

Condition

Overall the banjo is in excellent condition and has been professionally cleaned in our shop. The hardware has been disassembled and all has been buffed to a nice shine. The resonator has some light wear but the finish is in really good shape overall and has been waxed to a nice shine. The frets and fretboard are clean with spikes at frets 7,9 and 10. There was once a 5th string capo and there are a couple of holes on the side of the neck from that. There also is some nickel worn off of the armrest.

The banjo has some play time and light wear but is still clean and has been professionally cleaned to really glow!! The case has some wear but is structurally solid.

Set Up

This has been set up at the Banjo Warehouse. The head is a new Huber frosted head by Remo and is set to 90. This has a no name bridge and the intonation is set. The strings are new Huber Truetone .10 gauge strings and this is really playing great. This banjo has incredible tone and feels incredible to play as well. I am not kidding when I say this is rare, this may be the only one you ever see!
