Pre-War Conversion

Price: $99,000.00 USD

For sale is a fantastic pre war conversion.

The heart of this banjo is a 9 and 3/4 inch pre-war rolled brass hoop tone ring, likely taken from an RB-1, 11, or KK-10 or 11.

The rim has been replaced with a (likely pre-war) hand drum that I found at church. A Stern Tanning Hide head has been added to the other side and attached with staples and gorilla tape making this a never before seen “double head” pre-war conversion.

It has been re-necked with a pine board from Lowes.

The tuners have been reclaimed from a RK “Dirty Thirties” banjo. The fifth string tuner has been replaced with a grover friction tuner.

The tailpiece has been replaced with a home made one that is attached to the dowel with a clothes hanger.

The bridge and strings have also been replaced. It now sports a “mystery wood” home made bridge, and Nylgut “Minstrel” strings.

The nut has also been replaced with mystery wood. I’m not sure of the origin of this wood but I’m pretty sure it’s pre-war as well.

Thanks to all the above mentioned upgrades this banjo now has that deep, hollow, wet growl that you’d expect from a genuine pre-war conversion.

Original neck, tuners, nut, flange, tuners, rim, tailpiece, coordinator rods, hooks, nuts, hanger bolts, bridge, head, and strings, are not included.

Price is $100,000 firm. I’ll also consider trades for other pre-war conversions. No case. Will pack well.

The market has been so crazy for these pre-wars lately that I wanted to find out where the dial was in terms of value for this one—thanks!

Update: one tuner has recently been replaced.
