Notable info:
- the banjo was appraised by Guerseys Auction House for $3,000.
-Pictured are 3 inlays in which are missing small pieces (see headstock and close up photos)
These can be fixed. I felt it unnecessary. They are all secure and affect playability in no way.
- the plating is worn. Abrasive polish will remove the thin plating so it has only been lightly cleaned. Polishing is not recommended for banjos of this age. Enjoy the patina
- the action on antique banjos is "high" compared to modern day banjos. At roughly 3.5mm at the 12th this gives ample room for nylon/gut/synth gut strings to vibrate without interference of the frets. You can play stroke/clawhammer or finger pick classic style with ease. It has a wonderful tone. Brighter than the "plucky" tone generally thought of with old time banjo but nowhere near the twang of a wire string modern banjo. Very sweet sound.
- the fretboad can be played up to the 16th fret. At the 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th fret the string touches the tension hoop making all the same note. The banjo appears to have its original neck angle and the dowel stick unaltered. This seems to be done purposely but i cannot say with 100% certainty. Either way you have 16 frets of enjoyable playability. This can be altered by removing a small portion of tension hoop by filing a neck width area down about 1/8th inch. A call i will leave up to a later owner. I appreciate it as is so it will remain.

About the banjo/maker:
This banjo is marked by a label on the dowel stick (pictured) as "C.W. Lennox Hartford Conn."
C.W. Lennox is listed as making or selling banjos in Hartford, Connecticut  as early as 1895. Little is known beyond that unfortunately. Not many examples of Lennox banjos around though i have seen the name mentioned at least 1 time on banjohangout archived forum.
This was a an example of a high dollar professional banjo of its time. Made with utmost care and consideration. As exampled by the hand done engraving and intricate inlays that exist all over the banjo. The frets and fretboard have many years left of play ahead. For a 126 year old instrument it is in great condition. I have cleaned and conditioned the fretboard and frets.
If anymore information is required do not hesitate to message me anytime. I will include a short video to sample its sound. I am not an impressive player so i apologize i cannot give a full sonata.
