Joel Sweeney 1840 minstrel style banjo

Price: $1,100.00 USD

This is a beautiful recreation of a banjo constructed by the famous Virginia minstrel performer Joel Sweeney. It is believed to have been constructed for his niece around 1840. The original is housed in the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History. This has been crafted by a New York luthier well known for his work with historical stringed instruments.

The figured maple neck is finished in a French polish. The pot is oak. The skin head is 13 inches. Neck is 20.5 inches from nut to pot. Scale length is around 27 inches depending on where you place the bridge. Ebony pegs. Brass fittings. It is in as new condition as I received it from the luthier. I never played it. My taste in banjos is half a century later.
