Rare Long Neck Merlin
Price: $2,250.00 USD
The Merlin is a unique design to say the least. Google the name and access all the examples out there that are for sale on the net. Variations are evident. This example was one of the last made circa 1963-65 and I believe, represents the best of all the changes that were made. It comes with its original case, which in itself, is different. See pictures of it. Sounds great but would be good for a player with large hands as the neck is a bit thick. If I where able to keep her, I’d reshape the neck down to a thinner profile. Small holes are seen on on the edge of the neck, some of which are threaded. I believe these were used to install a sliding 5th string capo? The other holes are for ?
Plastic head. Top tension. Tuners all work well and it keeps its tuning. The resonator is cool as a moose! Spun with a decorative leather piece on the back to mirror the inlay designs. Little curved tear drops. There are four holes in it that correspond to holes in the rim but no screws or obvious attaching things have been found. I’m sure something could be found to attach if wanted. Frets are okay. No buzzes yet found. Heavy. If you are a serious collector, especially of long neck banjos, this is a must have.
