G.Mein 1866 Rare
Price: $2,000.00 USD
NEW PRICE REDUCTION:::
The word “ RARE” is often used when it is not warranted. This G. Mein, patented 1866, is indeed that. 10 in skin head- old and usable, overall shell diameter 11in. Flat fingerboard having flush, light colored wood for a “ flush fret” configuration. Newer nut installed with string slots left high for next buyers height preference. Original tailpiece and bridge but I put a higher maple bridge in front of the original. The original bridge has holes drilled in it instead of it being grooved. I put in a thin shim of celluloid tortoise binding between the shell and end of fingerboard to unable the use of the higher bridge. The original bridge I believe, can be utilized then, the shim could possibly be removed to use it. Neck is straight with no warping. The shell per patent drawing, is scalloped. It’s missing two of those * see pictures.
Head is tightened by pushing up from the inside*see pictures...Contact me with any questions. I’m open for reasonable offers, but no trades please. I’m trying to go cold turkey.The case, which I believe is the original case that came with the banjo when new, will be included. That, in itself is a rarity...The hole for the 5th string peg is wider than the peg I used. It needs about a 3/8 friction peg but I could locate one. I just added some tape to make it fit on a temporary basis. Thanks for reading. Price just reduced.
