Description

This is a 1970's Ventura 5 string Flathead Banjo.  This has a radiused fretboard which is very very rare.  The 1970's was an era that Japanese musical instrument production was top notch and this is a strong banjo for the price because of this.

This has a maple shell with a mahogany neck and resonator.  The hardware is nickel and this has a 2 piece flange and a full size tone ring.  The banjo is all original except for all new upgraded geared tuners.  The one weakness on the old Japanese banjos was the tuners were poor so this is a major upgrade.  The fretboard is a radiused rosewood fretboard that has diamond snowflake inlay.  There is white binding on each side of the neck and resonator and the headstock has inlay as well.

The fact this is radiused is a big deal and a very nice feature.  This is actually a better banjo than some of the brand new American made banjos of this same price.  This also includes the original hardshell case.

Condition

This has been professionally cleaned at the Banjo Warehouse.  We disassembled the banjo and buffed all of the metal with a high powered buffer so it shines.  The wood has been waxed and the fretboard cleaned and oiled which really brought this to life.

There is pitting in the tone ring and tension hoop which isn't that bad.  The rest of the hardware looks really good.  The shell on the inside has a lot of checking on the finish but the resonator and neck look great.  There wasn't much actual use to this banjo so even without the cleaning there wasn't much wear.  The frets show basically no wear and there are no spikes or 5th string capo.  The case is also clean.

Set Up

We also professionally set this up at the Banjo Warehouse.  This has a new Remo frosted head which is set to 90 on a drum dial.  The bridge is a Grover and this is set with correct intonation.  This has new Huber Truetone strings and the action is set nicely.  This is also fully adjustable.
