Wayne Fairchild Plectrum Banjo 1996
This banjo was originally built in 1996, by Mr. Fairchild, for a man named John Wassong who passed away a number of years ago. Wayne Fairchild was induced into the American Banjo Museum hall of fame in 2013 for his expertise in design and manufacture.
It is in the style of a Bacon and Day Silverbell banjo with that style tone ring and resonator. The scale of the banjo is on the shorter side for a plectrum and the neck is very thin with low action. It is very easy to play but has a big, loud sound. As you can see from the photos, the banjo is incredibly ornate with engraving and carving over just about every surface but don't let all the marquetry fool you. This instrument is a real player and can hold its own at any jam session. There is some slight finish checking on the resonator and a few spots where the gold has worn a little thin over the years but it is in over-all wonderful shape. It comes with its original case.
