Mastertone Style RB-5 copy by M.D. Allison

Price: $1,275.00 USD

Gibson Mastertone style RB-5 copy made by luthier M.D. Allison (Providence Guitar & Banjo) during the late 1960s. I have owned the banjo for over 45 years. Scale is 26.25"; Resonator and flange are both detachable. The banjo sounds as bright and crisp as it looks and is in very good to excellent “vintage” condition. In certain lighting, craze lines (alligatoring) is evident in the finish, notably on back of the resonator; there a few small crack lines in the plastic cream color binding. This is only normal for a 50+ year old instrument. I can send photos of the areas to an interested party. It will come shipped with a new Gator GL-BANJO-XL case.
FYI: Gibson Style 5 banjos were made in 1925-1927 and were replaced by Style 6 in 1928. Many of the original Style 5 banjos were tenor banjos, not 5 string. My Allison replica built circa 1967-71 most closely reproduces a Style 5 banjo circa 1926-1927 when a flat-head solid tone ring without holes became an option to the raised head.
The neck is straight without any warps and the neck angle is easily adjusted using the coordinator rods, and neck relief by using the truss rod adjustment.
I will send a video link to an interested buyer and demonstrate the banjo being played both in clawhammer and three finger style.
