Refurbished Old Time 5 String Open Back Banjo
Price: $275.00 USD
This is a "Frankenstein" banjo made from some old cast off parts and some new. The banjo is all set up and ready to play. You can listen to me playing this banjo in the clawhammer style by clicking on the link below: The banjo sounds good and is easy to play.
The rim was dissected from a modern Recording King banjo and has bird's eye maple veneer and a walnut rim cap grafted on to it. There are some "scars" where the grafting took place mostly on the inside top edge and also on the bottom outside edge where the veneer meets the walnut. The rolled brass tone ring came with the rim. The head is a castoff from the Deering company and has one small blemish where the top frost has been worn. The rest of the metal parts are all new.
The refurbished/refinished bird's eye maple neck is from a circa 1970's Aida banjo as the peg head declares. The neck was originally crafted for use with a one piece flange on a resonator banjo. It had the slots cut into the heel too accommodate the flange. The "scars" have been filled, sanded and refinished.. It has a new rosewood fretboard, tuners, and a walnut heel cap. It notes true up and down the neck with a string height of 3 mm above the 12th fret. Medium light strings sit on a 5/8 inch bridge. The peghead and 1st four frets have a slight clockwise twist that can be seen by sighting down the neck. One of the pictures shows this. It doesn't affect the playability. The bone nuts are new. It has the standard 26 1/4" scale.
The banjo weighs in at 5 lbs. There is no case but the banjo will be packed carefully and shipped insured via USPS Retail Ground. Please be warned, I live in Washington State. Shipping costs have increased dramatically and shipping from here to far away states is almost double from what it was 6 months ago.
Shipping: USPS retail ground dependent upon US zip code.
