1970's Stewart MacDonald Eagle 3 Pot/Gold Tone Neck Hybrid Banjo L@@K!

Price: $750.00 USD

This is an original 1970's Stewart MacDonald Eagle 3 bluegrass banjo pot with a no hole flat head tone ring fitted to a customized Gold Tone B1003-02 5 String neck. The pot was originally part of StewMac's Eagle 3 bluegrass banjo kit with a mahogany neck and mahogany resonator. I've had this banjo in its several iterations for about 15 years. The new Gold Tone neck and new StewMac curly curly maple resonator were added about 3 years ago. The banjo is set up with low action and plays great. I'm selling because of the weight (12 lbs). It's just too much banjo for my old shoulders and arms. You can listen to this banjo being played by going to my BHO music page and clicking on two different bluegrass tunes. "Salt Spring" and "Clinch Mountain Back step". You will get a lot of bang for your buck with this banjo.

Here are some of the banjo specifics:

The pot: Original StewMac Multi-ply rim made from Beech wood with a notched tension hoop, 24 L shoes, hooks and nuts. The no hole nickel plated brass flathead tone ring weighs about 4 lbs. The head is an original top frosted 5 Star head. It has a 4 piece resonator flange that attaches via 4 brackets to the bottom of the L shoes. The pot can easily be converted to an open back. The StewMack curly maple resonator attaches via 4 resonator screws at the same 4 brackets. The tailpiece is a modern Kershner.

The Gold Tone Maple neck was purchased unfinished. I took out the plastic diamond inlays and replaced them with abalone. The custom peg head overlay has MOP and abalone inlay. My initials (R & H) are at the top. I suppose that could be also interpreted as "Real Heavy" if someone asks. The tuners are all original 5 Stars that came with the banjo kit.

There is no case but the banjo will be shipped insured via USPS retail ground.
