SOLD! Pending funds 1968/69 Baldwin Style C
Price: $789.00 USD
This is a late '60s Baldwin Style C banjo, made by Ode in the Colorado factory just after being bought out by Baldwin. Essentially an Ode with the Baldwin banner on the headstock. This banjo has all of the desirable early features including the nice thick brown maple multi-ply rim. Has that great ODE craftsmanship and features walnut neck and resonator, dual co-rods, spikes at 7,8, 9 and 10, all hardware original including the original ODE tailpiece. Only the tuners are non-original. Pre-EPA Remo Weather King head. The wood and metal are in very good shape but there are added knobs on the resonator for a pickup at one point, also binding may be replacement--it is ivoroid, but I'm not sure what was original to the Baldwins (there are also 2 places where binding is missing--a small 1/2" piece by the 5th string tuner, and a 2-inch long piece where the neck meets the pot-- and the position dots look rough), tarnish and finish yellowing as you would expect from a 50-year old banjo. Frets and fret board are like new. It plays beautifully and sounds absolutely wonderful with that nice bell bronze Ode tone ring and great walnut sound. This banjo really cracks!
Because of the binding issues and the added control knobs, this is being sold as a player grade instrument, and is priced accordingly. Otherwise, it is a superior instrument and is in great shape. This is your chance to get that classic Baldwine/Ode sound without a big investment!
Ships in the worn but fully functional vintage TKL hardshell case pictured.
