Vintage Ode 6500 Style D, Walnut, Top of the Line, with video
Price: $2,499.00 USD
Up for sale is a beautiful 1970s vintage Ode Style D (Model 6500) – one of the top tier Banjos from the Baldwin – Ode era, known for outstanding craftsmanship, powerful tone, and classic walnut aesthetics.
These Banjos have become increasingly sought after for their rich, balanced sound and professional grade build quality. If you’re looking for a vintage instrument that can hold its own on stage or in the studio, this is it.
Tone and playability: This Banjo delivers everything you’d expect from a high-end Ode: * Strong projection with excellent clarity up the neck. * Great note separation for both Scruggs style and melodic playing. * Comfortable neck with smooth play ability.
It’s a serious bluegrass instrument, not just a collector's piece.
Features: * walnut neck and resonator. * muti–ply binding and ornate inlay * made in the USA
Condition: * very good * clean for its age with normal cosmetic wear * no structural issues * frets are in very good condition
Includes: * very solid and sturdy hardshell case. * strap, shubb capo, picks, extra bridge
It looks like a few parts have been changed out over the last 50 years. Two of the tension nuts have been replaced and are a slightly different size than the other 22. The resonator thumb screws have been replaced. The tailpiece and armrest and tuners are gold plated. The gold plating has faded somewhat on the tailpiece, but more significantly on the armrest as shown in the photos.
It has a fifth string sliding capo installed.
All in all, it is in excellent condition for an instrument made half a century ago. The resonator is suprisingly free from buckle rash. There is one small ding on the side of the resonator.
