Gold Plated Deering GDL Irish Tenor
Price: $4,500.00 USD
The GDL is the Top of the Line Deering banjo and this is a rare custom gold plated tenor, PERFECT for Irish trad. Darren Maloney plays a lesser model but you can get the feel for the Deering sound from his videos.
I have had this banjo for a number of years but I have a dozen other tenors that I use for gigs, touring and festivals. These range from Gold Tones to a 1921 Paragon. Consequently, the GDL rarely gets played and quite frankly I am afraid to take to a pub session or bring it on an airplane.
I recently played it and it was the first time out of the case in a year.
The sound is absolutely fantastic and the banjo is a joy to play, but all my other banjos sound good enough for gigs, festivals, travel and pub sessions, and much less of a worry to travel with. My 1921 Paragon is the banjo I usually take to Ireland.
The banjo is a work of art, but it's stupid to have such a beautiful instrument and not play it.
Irish Buyers: Save a few reddies, I will be in Galway in early December and could hand carry the instrument with me.
