Dobro Model 5, Dojo Banjo, National Style Biscuit Cone, 1987, OHSC, Clean and Loud!
Price: $1,750.00 USD
The Dobro Model 5 was the second version of the 'dojo'. The first were built by Dobro as well in the late 60's, but these later ones are solid instruments with a wide tonal range and LOUD!. OMI was Dobro, the family technically ran the company until 1989, then Gibson bought them in '93. But for 15 years prior to '89, one of the OMI builders and longtime floor manager Don Young, r.i.p., went on to cofound National Reso-Phonic guitars. This banjo has a 26 1/4" scale maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, straight with perfect frets. The Schaller tuners work and look new, though someone replaced the tuner button on the 5th string--who knows why. The maple body is laminate, just like a 30s Dobro. The 9.5" cone is a National-style biscuit cone, loud and clear. There is a small ding on the cover plate, mostly unnoticable. There are two finish blems where the one owner sat it next to a kerosene heater for less than a second--once. The serial number 8 130 7D, means it's wood (D), built in 1987. The original cases for these were contracted to G&G and are the same leather, tolex, and USA hardware that Fender cases were built with, although this is thicker than those! It has the orginal keys. Fantastic instrument and a unique banjo sound.
