1981 Deering Basic Resonator Banjo
LOUD.
I bought this some years ago out of curiosity more than anything else. I wondered if given its unique construction it wouldn't make the ideal busking or out-of-doors or festival banjo: lightweight, sturdy-built, economical and LOUD!
It is all these things. And of very clever construction. It has a comfortably shaped neck, easy to play, and very nice frets. But as it is I do not do any busking. Nor do I attend festivals. I play indoors, all civilised. Indoors it is LOUD!
It is well made and would make a fine fun alternative to Goodtime. It's a good deal more substantial. Or as a travel or camping banjo. Keep you safe from bears. (It's LOUD!)
It's not so battered up yet. There's a smallish dent on the back of the neck where it might have been leaned up against a sharp table edge. Smallish. Comparatively faint. There's a chip on the back of the headstock. Smallish. And some faint dings around the edge of the headstock. It's good but not pristine, I mean to say.
There's some strapwear toward the bottom of the neck, one ding on resonator, and tiny bit of attractive crazing.
There is some small wear on first couple few frets. It does not appear to have been very much played. The fellow I bought it from says he bought it to learn on. I don't believe he ever did. I picked on it for a month or two and put it back in it's case.
Solid banjo. Decentish case. I'm sure you could quiet it some.
