H. C. Nelson 5 string with "double spun" rim

Price: $1,500.00 USD

Circa 1890 H. C. Nelson five string banjo in excellent original condition. Marked "H. C. Nelson, N. Evanston, Ill", but has all the hallmarks of having been manufactured by, or assembled from parts made by, J. B. Schall of Chicago. 10.5" rim and 25.75" scale is a nice size for at-home playing. All original hardware is present, very little corrosion on rim or wear on neck finish. Original celluloid friction tuners. The rim is "double spun", or jacketed with German silver inside and out. Lightly cleaned and set up by myself, with a two leg bridge and Labella classic banjo strings. Plays very well, and for a smaller instrument it's projection is impressive. Includes a decently padded Fender electric guitar if bag, which is in good condition and fits the banjo quite well.
