Walnut/oak open back banjo

Price: $200.00 USD

Homemade banjo made by a local player when he was 16. I’ve listed this one before, but decided to go ahead and pull the well-leveled and mismatched frets, level the fretboard, and install new frets (#147s from Stew-Mac).

Specs:

• one-piece walnut neck with ears
• 26 3/8” scale length, 1 1/4” nut width
• bone nut and pip
• spike on the 7th fret
• new copper wire side dots
• 11” x 3” x 3/4” block oak rim made up of three layers (some cracks and slight de-lamination as pictured, seems to be holding)
• 20-hole aluminum tone ring
• new hooks, shoes, and tension hoop
• unmarked Fiberskyn head from Bob Smakula
• Gold Tone adjustable tailpiece
• vintage Kluson tuners (all turn counter-clockwise to raise the pitch, with the strings winding on in the correct orientation), one replaced Kluson bushing

Banjo plays well with an 1/8” action at the 12th fret with a 1/2” bridge. As for the rim condition, I originally had glued part of the v-joints as they along with a couple edge blocks had separated, but the glued edge cracks have appeared since installing the head. This banjo also had a reversed fifth string set up with a guitar tuner mounted to the edge of the rim and a bracket mounted on the side of the neck, hence the two plugged holes. I mounted a geared peg on it.

No case, will be packed well. Video of me playing it with the new frets below:
