1928 Gibson Style 2

Price: $3,400.00 USD

Selling an extra banjo, a 1928 Gibson, style 2 pre-war no. 8900-14, with an excellent conversion non-style 2 neck, original Grover Patent Presto tailpiece, pyramid style tone ring, bracket-shoe configuration, hex flange, Keith/Scruggs tuners, and one of my dogwood/African blackwood bridges. All parts in the pot appear to be original. The rim is a 5-ply mahogany rim with few marks, and appears to be solid with no separations. The resonator shows light belt buckle rash. The neck has a line, a crack perhaps, on the heel, but would be very fixable if it is. There are also some marks near the heel but they look like they are in the finish only. It looks as if it has been bumped. The nail at the tenth fret is loose. Any of these are minor and would be very fixable by a good banjo man. I have played this banjo on stage. It has good sound, not a no-hole raised head sound by any means, but a good sound none-the-less.

Included is the original maple tenor neck, with step keys. At some time someone decided to make it a 5-string, and did a tremendous job whittling down the neck. It looks like a professional job. It took me a while to figure it out. I finally saw that the first two inlays were off-center. I have never had it installed on the pot. A conversation piece for sure.

Brown vinyl case included.

This banjo has been taken care of over the years and is in excellent condition.
