1918 Iucci octave banjo-mandolin

Price: $1,750.00 USD

Gennaro Iucci and his son Michael were instrument makers in New York during the early 20th century. Although their instruments are not widely known, they are very well respected by the vintage instrument cognoscenti. This rarely seen example has exceptional tone quality due to the combination of its large 12” maple rim with a “rolled” tone ring as well as Michael’s invention, the Bell tone ring — an adjustable 9 inch “spider” which operates independently against the underside of the head.

This unique banjo has an 8-string maple octave mandolin neck with a triple-bound streamer under its ebony fingerboard and peghead overlay which is decorated with beautiful pearl inlaid designs and the Iucci logo in flowery script. The fretboard features large slotted diamonds in the style of the ‘20s and ‘30s. The original tuning machines are encased in decorative metal plates.

The maple neck is straight as an arrow with medium low action and no visible fret wear. There is some evidence of finish wear on the back of the neck, almost solely limited to the area directly behind the 2nd fret, and only two very small areas of oxidation on the stretcher band.

$1,750.00 with original hard case
