Early 1900's Medium Fancy Lyon and Healy Openback 5-String Banjo
Price: $800.00 USD
Beautiful and unique pre-war (both WWI and WWII) sound and lovely looking Lyon and Healy silver-sheathed open back banjo with fairly fancy - just right - inlays from the early 1900's. This has long been my favorite banjo for playing blues, and a bit of jazz, as well as class clawhammer.
Restored to professional player condition by Guitar Works with new frets and a 5th string spike at the 7th fret. The neck was reset and is straight. There are all new planetary tuners using the original ivoroid knobs. I added all new stainless brackets, of which there are 20. Custom Bart's mystery wood bridge and I added a new Fiberskyn head. The head is oversized at 11 1/2" giving the banjo a deep and rich tone. And there is a 26" scale. Over $1400 invested in this banjo to make it as good as it is. SSC.
Lyon and Healy was a highly respected Chicago maker from the so-called Golden Age of banjos, and later acquired by Washburn.
I recently received a new custom banjo that I had ordered a long time ago and no longer am playing this lovely,
"old friend": banjo.
Note that the little wire armrest shown in a photo has migrated to my new banjo.
